You will need to be able to read a house plan and know about the materials used and needed, methods of building, regulations, etc. You will need to be able to bid on a job, determine the cost by how much material, supplies, labor, and anything else may come as a surprise in a construction job.
You will need to have a good knowledge of computers and software programs to do your cost analysis, scheduling, online collaboration, and estimating. It will also be a great benefit to speak Spanish fluently to be able to communicate with many of the workers that only speak Spanish.
Some many colleges and universities offer 4-year programs in construction management or construction science. If you have a Master’s degree in construction, this will better enable you to hold a position over large construction or construction management companies. This is the reason why those who hold a bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field, will get their Master’s degree in construction management.

You will be working along with other professionals who have your same goals and desires in mind. You will be learning from them and most likely teaching them a few things as well.
